Description

NGC 6559, the Chinese Dragon, is a dark nebula in the southern constellation Sagittarius. It is a relatively small, nearby dust cloud in the Milky Way that measures about seven light-years across. The dark structure is caused by cool dust that absorbs background radiation from hydrogen gas that glows in red light due to ionization from nearby stars. The intricate details and wispy structure in the dark cloud is determined by turbulence flow dynamics influenced by variables such as nearby star radiation and motions of other nearby gas and dust.

This is a 6-panel mosaic, the result of 3 nights acquisition SII, OIII and HA.  A LOT of data rejection and using Normalized Scale Gradient Tool and Star Net in Pixinsight really helped cleaned it up a lot and provided a much better framework to play with although it took an entire day to process so I probably need a much faster computer and a wider field scope. Mosaics can be a real labor of love. My exposure time was limited to 3 minutes or I would run out of clear sky before it was done.
